What is coaching and transformational coaching?

Coaching is a conversation-based relationship with roots in performance coaching. You may have heard of elite athletes and leaders having a coach in order to enhance their skills and performance level. Now, coaching has moved beyond this and is available to the everyday person, often being termed 'life coaching'.  

Coaching offers an alternative to therapy or counselling by focusing on the client's present experience and future aspirations, without the need to delve into the past too deeply. People therefore often describe coaching as having a more positive focus than therapy.

I trained in a specific form of coaching known as 'transformational coaching', which draws upon evidence-based techniques to address almost any area of a person's life - from relationships and mindset, to career and performance. Transformational coaching moves away from the one-size-fits-all approach that has often been implemented in coaching, and instead offers a rich and varied approach that can be adapted entirely depending on the client. Not only does it look at the challenges or aspirations a person wishes to explore, but it also looks at the meaning of them and has the potential to uncover new thoughts, feelings and ideas that the client was previously unaware of. It is this that facilitates longer-lasting and more impactful changes when compared with older models of coaching.
